IN SHORT…

Potbelly Mammoth is an independent web-based comic by Nate Howard that shares the views and antics of a small handful of characters in their mid-twenties as they explore life, love, art, Metal, and on special occasions, stretch the very fabric of science.

BUT WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?

Hi, I’m Nate Howard.

I am the creator, writer, and artist of Potbelly Mammoth; as well as designer and manager of the site. I live with my wife, Chanoa,  two dogs, and a cat in a house built for us just outside of a tiny town of 600 farmers, maybe half a mile wide, called Walnut Grove, Missouri.

JUST WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TRYING TO PROVE?

After years of learning and honing my skills as a freelance
graphic artist locally, I felt the need to step back a little and
work with a handful of other skills I’ve developed in my life but
put aside. With experience in graphic design, web design, and
illustration, I stumbled on an idea to put them all together in what
is called a Webcomic. Having no previous experience at all in
the world of webcomics, I dove in head-first in September of 2013
with the help and advice from articles and podcasts provided by the
fine folks at the Webcomic Alliance, and officially launched the
first strip in January, 2014.

WHAT THE HELL INSPIRED THIS, ANYWAY?

Potbelly Mammoth was originally inspired by a handful of
conversations and inside jokes with my girlfriend (now-wife)
Chanoa, and best friend Jonathan Swadley. Close to a decade
later, for Swadley’s 29th birthday, I was inspired to finally make
the joke, and favorite memory, into a comic strip as a birthday gift,
and the response further pushed Potbelly Mammoth into a full long-form comic.
This project is a personal challenge to better myself as an artist, but also
a great opportunity to pay my respects and show my love to those that I
have had the blessing to share my life with.

I know, right? I’m like, the sweetest guy!
